Title: 1.5 head stud kit
Post by: tSoG-84bit on July 04, 2009, 10:57:29 am
Gotta replace the head gasket on my 1.5 diesel, but I can't seem to find any local stores that carry headbolts, let alone head studs. I looked on ARPs catalog, but didn't see anything for 1.5s. Does anyone know where I can order a set? Much appreciated.

Don't 1.5 engines use the same stud kit as the 8v gassers? I'm pretty sure the 11mm bolts are all the same. Anyone?

ARP # 204-4701, VW Golf/Jetta 1.8L & 2.0L 8v  kit

1.5s use 11mm headbolts like the 8v gas engines do.

Yes get the studs especialy on the 1.5's as they have a problem cracking the block from the bolts not going in far enough.  After you get them you will be glad you did even at the price they are it's probably the best thing you can do to these engines to help it last or from ruining it during assembly.  Guys show pictures here all the time of cracked blocks with 11 m/m bolts that don't go in deep enough, that's the big reason VW went to the 12 m/m bolts but they are stretch type and have their own set of problems though.  I like studs and I'm glad I have them in this engine.

ARP # 204-4701, VW Golf/Jetta 1.8L & 2.0L 8v  kit

1.5s use 11mm headbolts like the 8v gas engines do.

I happened to look in the 77-84 gasser bentley yesterday and it says for 11mm headbolts torque to whatever then crank it a half a turn, for diesels with 11mm bolts there's no extra half turn, just the torque.
Just thought I'd throw that out there :).

But the problem is that no matter what the torque process used for the diesel they are just too damn short to begin with and a stretch bolt is just a bigg pain in the ass ;)
