Title: What's the Likelihood!
Post by: Mozza on June 16, 2009, 05:09:44 am
Ok so i have been taking the engine to bits to change the water pipe and have found that there is a hose, to a pump, that then goes to the back of the engine which appears to go to the turbo. I have lots of oil in the water and have changed the oil cooler. ( not given it a propper run to see weather this has fixed our problem) If this does not fix it what are the chances that it will be oil and water mixing in the turbo somehow rather than the head gasket!

and how much am i lookin at for a replacement turbo :-\

Cheers for all your help,
Mozza

I highly doubt that your watecooled turbo somehow cracked and is allowing coolant and oil to mix.

By chance do you have any water in the oil also?  Normaly with the bad headgaskets you don't get water in the oil but there is usualy a little oil in the water in the reservoir but with all the headgaskets I've had go bad on 1.6's I've never had any water get into the oil.  I bet you already fixed it with the new cooler.

W drained the oil twice now and dont seem to have water in the oil, so am hoping to god i fixed it with the oil cooler so rare for the turbo for this to be causing the problem,

Ok right Got some coolant flush stuff and will have a go at that tonight and se over the next day or two of the problem has been fixed but if not Is the Any reason for me to worry about something gone wrong in the turbo to cause the oil in the water problem, as my dad, because of what some tit has told him, believes it will be the turbo and want to put his mind at rest that it may just be the head gasket if it is not the oil cooler,

I wouldn't drop the turbo in a bucket of water and so would want to add the shrader valve and a gauge.  If the pressure drops then you have a leak.  If not, then change the head gasket and flush the cooling system.

You can drop the turbo in a bucket of diesel though.

Cheers guys Im so sorry to be a pain in a behind but I have never had a diesel, turbo or fuel injection car before so a lot of this is new to me, we have just changed the oil cooler and had to change the main water pipe as-well and now need to flush the system out as the amount of gungy oil that was in the pipes was incredible, we were horrified to be honest so will se if this fixes the problem and then on to the head gasket if not!

Once again Thank you for your help and it is a pleasure to be pert os such a knowledgeable forum,
