Title: Cartridge style TDI oil filter retrofit possible?
Post by: blackdogvan on June 07, 2009, 04:46:38 pm
I don't have access to a ALH for a closer look, is it possible to retrofit a idi/1z engine to the later tdi style oil filter? They seem so neat & tidy & i wonder if its possible with an adapter plate or similar. Any tdi folks have comments about living with the cartridge style?

the ALH is definitely different, but i believe you could make an adaptor to make it work.  i've thought about doing this also... i like the idea of just replacing the filter element and not the big and bulky unit.  oil changes would be so much easier too!  i hate removing it from my mk2... p/s lines in the way, and the oil spills due to the filter being at an angle  >:(

If there was an adapter available I would definately buy it. I really hate getting messy unscrewing the big oil filters.

Even better is that you can use one of those Pela oil extraction pumps and not even get under the car.  :D

Still, is a good idea to get under there every now and then to see if anything is going on that needs attention.

But I personally hate screwing around with drain pans and the mess that happens after you unscrew the filter.
