Title: leaky injector
Post by: airhead on June 01, 2009, 12:09:08 pm
My number 4 (furthest right when looking down on the engine) injector sprung a leak today. It seems to be coming from around the union at the pipe. Is it likely I'll need to replace the pipe and/or injector or what can I do about this? I was going to just try tightening the union first of all. Obviously its coming out at high pressure, so its pissing diesel all over the place. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try to remove it / inspect the seal, re-install it?

I haven't done anything yet. I wanted to consult your good selves first before fiddling with things.

While it seems unlikely if it hasn't been messed with in a while, they do sometimes get burrs or whatever on the end of the injector line, can vibrate a bit loose or otherwise fail to seal.

I'd be concerned if it just started leaking out of nowhere, but the first thing I'd do is try and undo/redo it.

try loosening both ends of that injector line and then move the line a bit (re-set it) and then tighten the nuts down equally.  did you have the injector line holder on?

This was a simple little problem, thank god. I took off the high pressure line, cleaned the unions and retightened it, and it seemed fine. The leak was still there though. All it was was the little rubber stopper for the number 4 injector return had split and the diesel was spraying up around the high pressure union, making it look like it was the high pressure feed that had started leaking. I made a new stopper and all was well again. When I get around to it Im going to replace all the return lines. They must be pretty perished at this stage. Isn't it nice when things are simple?
