Title: Can you have Too much Lucas fuel additive?
Post by: Jettagli16v on May 23, 2009, 03:17:28 pm
Just that,
I bought a bottle of Lucas diesel/gas fuel additive,
(should have gone to find the Lubro-Moly Diesel Purge, but....)
and threw it into a tank that was half full,
(to get things really clean, and recalling that I fed the Diesel Purge straight into the pump)
The bottle said it would treat up to 25 gallons of fuel.
So I used the oft-incorrect more is better thought process,
and drove on down the road.
Today on the way to work, the car was sputtering at high rpms
(like a gas engine running too rich)
and I became concerned.
Leaving work, (now at .25 tank) I topped the fuel off,
and the car ran like a top the whole way home,
80-90mph, no worries.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with either Lucas additive specifically,
or additives in general?

Man, its good to have the GTD back!
Thanks,
-Brad

these little guys have like a 10 gallon tank.. did you add the whole bottle!?!?  :o I don't think you really damaged anything as these things can obviously run on anything that will ignite around 400F.. Just the tank being more lucas additive than diesel probably had half the BTU's or something crazy like that... causing your lack of power and rough running.

I just use ATF to clean mine.. even in my gasser!  :P

my dad runs that lucas poop in every tank of fuel in his duramax, and it likes it just fine. ive ran it too, because he has a big tank in the back of his truck and mixes the lucas in before he fills it up. my car has no problem with power or idling or anything with lucas'd diesel. biggest difference i notice is the amount of power between pink fuel and green fuel.

I know it wont harm running on normal amounts, but I think Brad put in WAYY to much.. judging by his post... lmao ;D

Maybe it was effecting your fuel shut-off selinoid. You know, Lucas and electric stuff..... ;D

Well,
that was my guess...

That Lucas is a decent additive,
but when you add enough concentrate to mix with 25 gallons of fuel,
into, 5 (?) gallons,
you are barely sustaining combustion, there isn't enough fuel..
but you should get things clean that way, no?

I blew up my first diesel in under a year,
I am trying to take good care of the second one!

Put in the correct amount if you want to look after this engine  :P

While I appreciate the sentiment, Jay,
you must understand that this car is located in America, and
its driver an American.
Ergo, More = Better, no?

(very tongue in cheek)
