Title: Lifter Interchange-ability
Post by: ein bora on May 21, 2009, 08:38:35 pm
I have a sporadic lifter noise coming out of my 1.9 IDI. This can happen at any time, high speeds and or at idle and can last for a few seconds to much longer, but not minutes upon minutes. I've tries some of the readily available chemical fixes to no avail. My assumption is that it's a collapsed lifter. As I have a bunch of 1.6 lifters - does anybody know if the 1.6 lifters will interchange with the 1.9's?? Thanks.

Haha!!
I had this question in the reverse order to save money on my AAZ head build. I used my 1.6 hydro lifters and cam on my aaz head. Measure the width and you should see! they are the same :D . Use the search and look for ... "how to tell if a lifter is bad" or something :P

they fit
if you look at the bottom the 1.6l lifter (year 92), there more down. 1.9L lifter are more up/in...(year 96 97)
93 - 95  8mm valve thinkness // 96 - 97  7mm valve thinkness
you could try, its just time consuming
take note of the oil ring gap around the lifters

a 2.sl0w lifter looks the same as the 1.6's
