Hi everyone. I've been test driving cars with the 1.9 diesel and I notice that unlike my 1.6td or my newer tdi, the engine seems rough at higher rpm...almost feels like an internal vibration of some sort. Is this normal for these motors? Some seem worse than others so i thought I would check. Thanks.

it might be due to the heavier crank?? they are kinda rough high up though, Im no expert but my 1.6gtd was smooth higher up definatly

For what its worth, my 2.0 audi 5cyl diesel feels kind of like that too.

how cold was the engine??? when they're cold they dont like to rev as much. there's also a bunch of other reasons why the engine may seem rough at higher rpm, such as engine mounts, and timing. don't drive the 1.9 like the 1.6. you need to make use of the lower rpm torque to get you moving. i would never go back after making the switch. the torque just pulls the car right up hills whereas the 1.6 would have been really struggling in the same gear.
