Post by: zyewdall on May 01, 2009, 08:21:34 pm
New project.... putting a mercedes 5 cylinder turbodiesel (1985 OM617) into a 1967 Landrover 5 door station wagon.....

I'll post pics and such when it gets to that stage...

Ahhh, the old, big, boxy Land Rovers... the only SUV I'd ever own. :D I came within a single decision of buying an old 5-door diesel Land Rover two years ago... Frame rot stopped me. I didn't know how much damage there was, or how easily I'd be able to repair it.

How's the undercarriage on that one look? Seems quite clean from here in SC.

Yeah...  I basically just gave in and bought and SUV     I've got little cars and pickup trucks in my fleet -- none of which can hold a few people plus a few 100lb+ dogs to go up hiking on gnarly roads to the trailheads.

But, it's a an old cool one at least.

This one doesn't have the frame rot -- colorado vehicle its whole life.  Springs are relatively new, and of course, the body's aluminum.  Besides for being almost 40 years old and missing the engine, it's in pretty good shape.

You don't really want to keep that SUV, do you? You want to send it far away, to the Southlands...

It's a series III 88.   Also missing the engine I think.  Not completely sure of the status on it.  He's got another Series III 109 and two more 88's.  And a whole bunch of range rovers and discos.  And alpha romeos.

The OM617 is a fairly long block.  You've got some fabrication ahead of you..Good luck! ;)

Yup, that's Nederland.

Project is pretty much stalled for the winter.  Got the engine, transmission parts, stuff.... sitting around, but it's snowing now, so it'll be a project for next spring (unless I get a shop to work on it this winter... )

Mind you, Series Landys don't feel slow when you need the brakes. :o
