So,
From what I understand, I could get a late '90s 1.9 tdi bottom end, aaz pistons and rods, a 1.6 head, throw it all together, and it would work?
What would the CR come out to? Would I have to use a hydro head, or could I use mech? Additionally, could I use an aaz head?
Lastly, would the block have provisions for a normal IP bracket to bolt to?
I ask this, because I could get a 1.9tdi block from a car that blew a tbelt for cheap.
Thanks.

im no expert so i wont say that it will or wont work.
but what we all know is that the 1.9 is better then the 1.6.
i myself would not be inclined to use a 1.6 head on a 1.9 bottom end.

Thanks. I think the bottom end is an AHU, but *might* be an ALH. Is there a difference between them? How strong are the stock tdi rods vs aaz ones?

1.9 block with 1.6 head CR 27.26:1

D'oh.
Would it be the same with aaz pistons as it would with tdi?

wasn't there a 1.6 upgrade to 1.9 by just using the bottom end? a little counter productive though because the 1.9 head flows sooo much better...

Would the 1.9 head do alright?

yep. the 1Z/AHU is nearly identical to the AAZ other than some of the internals. jimfoo turned his broken 1.9 AAZ into a TDI by just adding TDI pistons & head. he even used the AAZ head internals in the TDI head and it worked.
