how hot is too hot for oil temperature? this is on a 1.6 turbo diesel GTD engine, my gauge shows about 130 deg. C and that is s fairly constant not just peak after hammering it. is this too hot? I am using quantum 15W40 specific turbo diesel oil
what are the specified operating temps for this engine? both oil and water temps if anyone knows?
also does everyones boost pipes get oily? mine have quite a noticable amount in, is this normal or could it be something more sinister like turbo bearing oil seals?

Alright bud
Sounds about right, mine sits at around 90ºC water and around 130ºC oil and yep my boost hoses have fresh oil in them I use Synta silver and my GTD has only done 64k I think it comes from the PCV system, Is yours connected as factory still? that said every VAG 1.6 TD Ive looked at at scrap yards had oil in the boost hoses.
Those readings are according to my VDO oil temp guage and a mk3 water temp guage, though I'm now using a Seat Ibiza TD guage cluster which isnt marked with ºC
That said I'm not sure if I'm using the correct oil temp sender as I think I'm using a GTI MFA one instead of the Audi VDO one as I sheared one

Wow. Interesting. I would have considered 130 C too hot.
I run an intercooled AAZ (1.9 TD) in a heavy T3 Westfalia camper van, and I see about 110 C on average. If it starts creeping to 115 - 118, then I start to be concerned.
Maybe I'm worried over nothing at 118 C, if you guys are seeing an average of 130 on your 1.6TD engines in your (relatively) light cars.
It would be interesting to see a larger survey sample of average oil temperatures from the people here.

Ah cheers mate, yeah my PCV system is still factory. I think I'm actually using the same oil temp sender as you, so as long as they're reading about the same then I'm fairly happy.
were those readings with everything still factory?
