hi guys, i keep on getting a squeeky fanbelt. it has been changed 3 times in the last 18 months but returns to haunt me. why does this keep on happening and howcan i avoid this happening again? any preventative measures i can take?

so i assume you have a 1.6 with a/c? or no? did you replace with a Conti belt? mine was hard to put on.. i had to actually use a screw driver and turn the engine by hand to zip it on :lol: AND to take it off. no squeals, and the alternator adjustment was perfect. it could be badly worn pulley's, but thats doubtful. the pulleys usually wear from excessive heat (from slipping)
i would also recommend that you look and make sure that all bolts are there, because my alternator bolt fell out once and then the belt would squeal like a pig too! :lol: and not charge :(

hi, my motor is a 1.9 aaz enginee with no a/c and added intercooler.
the pulleys are all fine and none of the bolts appear to be missing or loose.
it mainly happens at the wrong time - when its most embarrising for me!

Ddi you verify all the pulley's are in the same plane with no wabble ? If the alternator is a little to one side or the other, they will not be in plane and they will make noise. I assume the tension is correct and the alternator can't slip under high load ?

well, my old man did all the work and he is a little annoyed at me for changing the belts so many times. i'll have to check the belts and make sure theres no crap on them to see if that makes a difference.

Hang in there man, my experiance has been that squeeky belts tend to depart the vehicle when you least want it... so I think your changing them is $10 well spent. Find the root cause and you'll be good.

Mine squeals too - same setup.
New belt helped for about a week.
Then I overode the auto-tensioner on the altenator by using a lump of wood between engine and alt as a lever to add extra tension before tightening bolts.
Still squeals - and I'm suspecting the nose bearing in the alt - especially now as some clown has over tensioned the belt :lol:

what make of belt you using? im using a gates micro v and its been on since the build,no squeaks,and the tension is not overly tight,if you overtighten the belt it will wear the water pump bearings and the alternator bearings,ive got a clutch pulley on my alternator too,stops the belt bounce :wink:

how are you? aint heard of you for ages.
might check the make of belt, just in case it is a cheapy one causing me all this grief.
old man aint gonna be happy as it is a bit of a pain in the rectum to do - time wise.
