Title: 1.7 headgasket on a 1.6?
Post by: wil892 on March 15, 2009, 11:44:01 am
Just looking through ebay and found an elring goetze 1.7 3 notch gasket. It is fibre but it has a lot of metal around the cylinders and ther prechambers. I would quite like to stick with a fibre gasket as I have heard the MLS ones don't take kindly to any kind of imperfection on the block and head.

I asked on here about using the MLS 1.9 gasket and the only negative responce about them was the clean issue and a slight loss of compression ratio. As i understand it the 1.7 has the same bore as the 1.9 so would I still get this compression ratio loss.

Here's a link to the gasket I'm looking to buy, my GTD has a 3 notch on it which I'm pretty sure has never been changed. What would everyones opinions be for my gasket choice. The head shouldnt be warped as the gasket has not blown its just leaking oil from the front. I'm thinking just a cleanup of both the head face and the block face. I do have some new genuine valve stem steals but the car doesn't burn oil so is this a nessesary thing to replace.
Gasket:

The bore is the same as a 1.9. However whether all the oil and coolant feed holes line up is the other concern. Others on this board should know.
