Title: Hey I am new!!! help me please
Post by: brandonfast on February 08, 2009, 05:44:48 pm
My name is Brandon, I have a 81 diesel rabbit, and it has a MF engine code but a non turbo injection pump. i got it running good and am planning on getting a egt sensor and cranking up the boost and fuel enrichment, just wondering if i can run it like that without the non turbo pump on a turbo motor and also can I swap the turbo diaphram style top half of the injection pump on a non turbo pump. thanks for your replies in advance!!!

Sure you can drive it without the LDA. You just won't get the fuel as the boost climbs. You can tune the injection pump to give you power on boost but you will have a lot of black smoke off boost. Or you can tune it to be smokeless off boost but it won't make a lot more power than a n/a when it's on boost.

As for getting an LDA pump top, I would just try to get a TD pump and use the whole thing.

cool thanks, i dont mind black smoke, i think for now im going to maybe do a boost guage, egt sensor and just crank up the mixture and see how far i can take it without melting stuff. im not a huge diesel guy. my pan was get a diesel bunny and not have to smog a turbo 16v but the td stuff is pretty free for tuning and fun.

you could always turn up the fuel and use your foot... you'll need a boost gauge though...

sad but true...  i don't think anyone can compete with that price for an EGT setup.

You can graft a top from a turbo pump on.I used a peugoet td lda on my na pump.works great ,i also nabbed the 10mm plunger.I would get a core td pump and work through all the linkages(in the lda) to make sure they ran true.

I'd just like to add that i am very pleased with my EGT from prothe. It's plenty responsive for street use.

edit: and my nicest looking gauge.
The rpm gauge that cost almost as much leaks condensation into it and this egt one is still bone dry and super bright.
