Hey guys glad to be here! I am long time VW devotee, just starting to delve into the diesel side I am capable in the garage having rebuilt numerous gas engines. My first (of many most likely) question is What performance tricks can you recomend for A basic stock rebuild? I was thinking about a little port clean up, and a traditional gasket match. maybe later later the addition of a small turbo. but for now nothing complicated (too many other projects to finish before I experiment). would studs improve the reliability or is that over kill? Im a machinist by trade so I able to modify parts as needed . Thanks in advance for your input

Hey there, Welcome to the best Diesel forum in North America! (I can say that in my opinion because i have not needed to go elsewhere for my issues :P lol) There are alot of good guys here that I can guarantee will help you out with any hurdles you may encounter, I know they helped me. :)
Port and match the mani's, find a dual outlet manifold off an 8v gasser, along with a 8v intake mani. Vnt turbo, Big open exhaust, 3" max on an n/a engine anymore is overkill. Straight pipe it if you can stand the noise, less restricition is key, get your pump done by Giles in Markham, Ontario. Also buy a set of bosch injectors from them. :P Studs are always good, wont do much of an upgrade before the turbo, but it will certainly be worthwhile if you do and even worth while if u dont. Can guarantee the head is good and tight to the block :) a few options
What year is the car/engine?
