so here in the Acores...there are plenty n/a 1.9 d....harder to find the td.
i would like to build a 1.9for my gtd. the 1.6 is running well....but while its still running good i would like to build a 1.9 on the side.
so with the head and block....what the diff?
i guess its a question for the euro guys here....i would assume that internaly the n/a would still have to be a stout engine....
any advice would be great, and thanks in advance

the 1.9 n/a and 1.9TD longblocks are identical internally. i wonder if the 1.9 n/a has the oil return plugged off?
-
well thats good news...cause there is lots of the 1.9 n/a s here...

so i'm guessing your 'here' is not north america then
the 1.9 engines are torquey little motors. slap a turbo on them, and they become monsters.
i have the 1.6 turbo on my mTDI and for now its ok. at low rpm i don't even need boost for the torque. it just pulls along very happily :)
btw how much do the 1.9's go for where you live?

on the 1.9 blocks it will be cast in the block (1.9D/TD)
universal block

NA engine has different pistons and rods. Rod is 6mm longer (150mm) and piston pin is 2mm smaller (24mm) than 1,9td. No worries though, will handle turbo fine.

Depends on where it came from. If it was from a car then they are the same. If you can find a later production industrial engine then use that. It will have piston oilers and the better TDI crank pulley.
-
All the 1.9s had oilers if I'm not mistaken.
Andrew
Yes, all the 1,9s have squirters, but NAs have different pistons and rods.

There you go, i stand partially corrected

Cool insight man!
What kind of vehicles sported the industrial engines?

i thought i put the location in on the profile....oh well, thats updated.
here in the Acores the islands are very mountainess and the roads flow with the land.....so although i enjoy the light revyness of the 1.6, i like having some displasement. my b5 tdi for example is gret here.
so with the mods i have planned for the 1.6, like 3inch turbo back, giles pump, water to air IC....i think the k24 and those mods will suit the 1.9 nicely.
im gonna still do some research here on a few different places to get the best value and quality.

I was lucky as i was looking for an AHU to put in my transporter, but when i called the person who was to get me one he offered one of the 2 industrials he had found. They were being used for emergency water pumps. VW produces them for generators and pumps and can be found once in a while on ebay, etc.Nice thing about them is because they have a small pump head, you know they were never run above 3000 rpms

so did vw put inferior parts in the N/A motor??? maybe different part number, but same part sort of like the 1.6N/A & TD dispute?

Ahh jeez don't say that! Now i'm gonna worry about my possible inferior pistons. At least i have 99% decided not to turbo it so i guess i'll be okay [except for the lying in bed thinking about it].
