Hi guys new here, from northeasten Pa. I got some qustions I hope some of you guys can answer.I have a project I am going to start soon. Its a vw diesel to toyota pickup swap. I scored a low hour 1.9 industial motor for free, I am wondering what motor is it? did it come in cars and witch ones? Thanks for any help.
-
Good question.
Can you post up a pic?
There are several 1.9's available but I'm guessing it's going to be the AAZ.
Are there a bunch of wires going to the Injection pump or just one?
-
Just one wire on the pump. I think its to shut it down. Its a all mechanical motor no ecu. I'll get some pics.
-
Ya I'll go with the AAZ untill I see a pic.

AAZ does that make it an early tdi ?

It's not a TDI. They are direct injection. This one is indirect injection.
You will need a different pump, or at least modify yours to work for on road use.
PS, I'll be moving this thread to the IDI section shortly.

It is or is simular to an ADG industrial 1.9 na. That's what i now have in my transporter. Depending on when production was ,you may a very strong motor, Mine came with piston oilers and the later TDI crankpulley
which is infinitely stronger than the regular 1.9 crank. Check the number on the crank pulley it self, i believe it starts with a 028 ... ... , but i don't have the number in front of me so do a bit of research. Just get a Giles super pump and forget turbocharging it. But if you do you can't get a better block to start with.
-
Dont listen to the haters up there ^^^^ :D
Get your self a pump with the LDA from Giles then get the exhaust manifold/ Turbo and have FUN!!!!
-
wonder why the timing belt is off... make sure you don't try to crank it over!!! (you could slightly bend some valves even if it spins a little...) but thats being a little over cautious...
like zuk said, get yourself a turbo & a Giles pump and you'll be set! BUT you also need to keep in mind the TDI crank fix. the engine may or may not already have it though. in the general section i've made a thread about the possibility of using a stud in place of the crank bolt to yield even more torque. this might actually be able to fix the problem in its entirety, and be much cheaper in the long run (crank bolt fix runs anywhere from $200-$800, and you always need to replace the crank bolt itself when removed)
-
Thanks guys. The belt is off because it was in the shop for a few months and they were robing parts from it for other motors. Could you tell me more about the pump required?

the motor will probably run half decent with that pump, but i think the driveability will be limited with the current governor setup. when you go turbo you want to add an LDA, and therefore you need one from a 1.6TD pump or a 1.9 if you can find one.
check out Giles info in the vendors section.
-
what is the lda?
-
The LDA is the spaceship looking thing on top of turbo pumps. It stands for "load dependent aneroid". All it does is add more fuel as it sees boost from a turbo.
-
Got it. Thanks for all the info guys. I'll keep you guys abreast of the build.
-
That pump will work but be prepared to be honked at.
If you're gonna change the belt, maybe do while it's attached to the bell housing, but better still, while it's easy to work on, replace the headgasket, because when i did mine TDC at the piston and the mark on the pulley were off [i did it on a stand without the bell housing to check against]. With the head off, you can check against the marks and be able to time the belt perfectly.
-
hey you wanna part with that bell housing belt drive thanga maggijji
you have bolted to that motor !
my gears are turning in my head i bet i could make something neat out of that?
well let me know?
thanks Duane

I would be willing to part with the pto. I have to wait till I get it timed,it has the pointer for tdc.

thats no problem! you should try and incorporate a hole in your other tranny for the future! just let me know when your ready? what do you want for it?
trade parts or something?
