The oil pan on my rebuilt Quantum engine has me worried. It was very rusty, with some pin holes and a lot of external pitting. I welded the holes up,wire wheel brushed it and powder coated it black. Now rust has blistered through the coating, and it's still on the stand, not yet in the car :(
My question is, will any gasser 1.6 pan fit this engine? I'm not worried about the drain fitting, as I'll need to change something anyway to match the VNT drain hose. I can weld on an appropriate fitting.
The windage tray/gasket is the same, so are the pans interchangeable?

a gasser oil pan will fit but you will loose one quart of oil capacity! so instead of 5quarts a gasser holds 4quarts! you should stay with a 5quart if you can? but to get you out of a bind you can use the gasser 4quart pan!

I bought a *Brand New* Oil pan from the VW dealership about 2 months ago
(for 1.6 TD)
Nobody had them anywhere,
I did not want to weld a bung on because of the issues you are already having,
It was like $150-175
From my Local VW Dealership in Orlando, FL.
It took 1.5 wks to get (Brought in from Canuck warehouse, of course!)
but I was shocked at the reasonable price!

At first glance - Great !! HD pan for only $60 !! Got me to rethink my NA pan and my oil return line going over the bell housing to return to the vac pump port... Then I see they have a $25 HD pan w/o the turbo bungs and I think - For $35 I can do that very easy. Then I think, man, I could for $1 weld a bungs onto my NA pan as it is clean... Then I am back to - PUT THE engine in the caravan NOW and worry about doing a full turbo build later !! :-)
Half way down the post is my return line.
