Title: how tight are the IP shaft bushing supposed to be??

I bought some replacement IP shaft bushings from Pete and they are SUPER tight! they are pretty much going to need to be pressed in and then the SHAFT pressed in after...is that sound right?? my others are really lose fit comparing the two..anybody bought replacement bushings from Pete and had this issue??
any help or info you got would be great...I wanna get this pump put back together but I need some help with these bushing first 8)

The bushings are press-fit and then need to be align-reamed afterwards to the right dimentions... pretty sure Search will find you lots of discussion on this... including pictures of the specific reamer required.

You can check over at www.vwdieselparts.com as well for discussion... look for a thread with Fatmobile where he shows his custom case for the reamers. ;-)

I compared his bushing to the IP shaft and the bushing measured .001 (one thousandths) smaller than the shaft.
They would not slide over the shaft at all.

I have a set at home but being the space cadet I am I forgot to measure them last night for a comparison.

So anyway to add another level to his question.

What is the max specs on the IP shaft as to how much play it can have before you have to replace the bearings? Anyone?
I thought it was in the Bentley but we couldn't find it.

I did get a bore gauge but have been reaming them until the shaft fits tight but still spins with some oil.
 The last one jiggled a little,.. it was 1 thou on the outside bushing and .75 thou (.00075") on the inside bushing. Worked great on the car.

I ended up having the same reamer set-up at my work! both sizes!
now I just gotta try and get those old bushings out!

Push them away from the center.
 One goes inward and the other goes outward.
 According to a bosch sevice center guy from Zips diesel in St. Cloud, MN
 The local guy says it doesn't really matter but I still do it the way I was told to. I figure the local guy was just too lazy to do it right.
