Giles: What are you working on today Tyler?
Tyler: Umm... I think I was working on ***********'s super pump
Giles: OK, carry on then
So I crack it open and hurray, presents
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v603/burnyourmoney/P9070229.jpg)
That's the advance spring
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v603/burnyourmoney/P9070224.jpg)
And this is what the rest of it looks like
Looks like it has been at the bottom of the Atlantic for the past decade.
I spent all day cleaning it in order to properly assess it, and yep, it's junk.
-
i see that boost pins good ! good thing you sent that pump back to me!
you know the one i sent and you sent back!
i forgot i rapped it for the boost pin for my 1.9 so i could use another pin!
got a extra one you can send?
Duane
-
Yes very good I sent it back to you. Someone would not have been happy. I don't have any spare pins.
-
wow
talk about knackered
-
isn't that the lime green spring everybody is after?
why was a junk pump been spray painted to look "new"?
-
Yea, that is ugly.
I wasted an entire Saturday going through a friends pump too, except this one was "newly rebuilt" Turns out they left two washers just laying in it which got all ground up. I should mention who "they" are but I am still trying to get a hold of them for a new pump.
-
wash, sandblast, strip. That is why the outsides are snazzy looking
-
That's just nasty right there..
I hope I don't come across one of those..
-
What is all that crap?
-
Rumor has It that Im the Lucky Owner.
-
what is Junk? Do you mean you cant rebuild it or that there just isn't any good parts and it will all have to be replaced? I am asking because mine that I want to send up to you guys to build probably looks something like that inside.
-
A lot of the expensive parts are no good.
Driveshaft
transfer pump
rollers
cam plate
etc
Even the head and rotor is questionable on this one, but it would need to be tested on the test bench.
It would be cheaper to have a different core provided.
The pump was siezed solid when we got it.
Has yours siezed?
If you think yours is this bad, call Giles first and ask him what he suggests. He might get you to do some "pre-surgery" to assess it, I don't know.
-
Rumor has It that Im the Lucky Owner.
how many hurricanes has that been through?
Duane

The funny this is, I sold it to him 4 months ago, and it came from a car that had been running about 1 month before that :?
Actually it's not funny, because now I'm going to be out some money.
-
My pump turns and had diesel in it. I will let you guys up there in wonderland know the status and will call as soon as I have my engine put together...I am selling a 1.6L car to pay for this project
thanks and hopefully I will not have any problems with this. Lucas ><>
-
If it still turns over it's problaby fine. Even though this one looked as bad as it did Giles still had me clean it because it might have been savable. I doubt yours is anything near this bad.
-
was mine this bad?
-
was mine this bad?
No. Yours was a rusty POS on the outside but the inards were clean
-
i think this is a good example of why people should not store their pumps dry
i suppose filling it with something like ATF for extended periods (or even just a few months in some cases), with ALL ports carefully blocked off, should suffice right??? 8)
i dont think many people realize that diesel does break down...
-
ATF will last a very long time.
You use the same priers as me Tyler :) and that weird black handled one came out of my donut in the trunk. It has a use?
-
I love my black screwdrivers from MK2s. I have 2 of them. One in Philips mode, one in Standard mode.
Yes if this pump had beren stored full of any fluid (Except water) it would definitly not have been in this state.
The pump was in florida so the humidity is probably what did it in so fast.
-
I'm thinkin' those pliers are Canadian Tire's finest ??!!!
-
absolutly. Only the best :D
-
I actually had to clean a pump that has been using biodiesel today. I had to acid dip it to get the biodiesel residue off the parts, and even then it only softened it and I had to brush it off.
I'll ask Giles what he recomends. I know all of our core pumps on the shelves are stored dry and they are fine on the inside (cracked 2 open today). Basically keep them away from moisture and they should be ok
-
would super low viscosity oil be a good choice?
Some nice synthetic or something.
Just a thought though
Any residual oil wouldn't matter either... diesel is after all basically oil.
-
I got a set of injectors that were used on biodiesel and SVO, they reek!! plus, I had a hard time getting them clean.
moiture+(diesel, svo or biodiesel)=trouble
