Ive been trying to get the rebuild started, and its not going to well. Its turning over, excellent compression and oil pressure. Its a newly rebuilt 86 1.6 hydraulic lifter.Ive rebuilt /resealed injection pump as well as intoduced a 10mm head assembly. Its not pulling fuel from the tank/cup.If its 180 out it will still pump right?I was thinking banjo bolts?I dont know, will restriction in the line cause fuel not to move at all?I cracked the lines "nothing".
-
if the pump has air in it ,will it not build pressure? Its full of fuel, but will not rid the air in the system.
-
180º out will pull fuel, and may even start.
does fuel come out from the OUT bolt?
-
Can you see it pulling air/fuel into the pump?
Anything coming out? I find it easiest to add some fuel to the pump to help the vanes make a better seal to pull fuel in.
-
I can see air and fuel going in the pump, and it will come out of the out ,but not alot.I removed the return line and watched as i cranked nothing even squirted out!fuel and air just knid of fall into the pump when cranking.I had an inline pump on the return to help pull, but same symptoms.Maybe bad filter? Its brand new from "prothe"
-
Did you prefill your fuel filter?
-
yep filters full.
-
I always try to start it first from a cup with diesel in it, no filter, both connections into the cup, even PDs start like that.
EDIT: when I fitted my 10mm plunger, nothing would come out as the control collar would spill all of the fuel, I had to fiddle a lot with the full load screw to have something squirting out the delivery valves.

i usually drag my jetta around the block in gear a few times with a friend. third works well at about 40kmh. once you start to feel it pulling down shift and mat it but don't rearend your buddy but don't stop towing at that point. It takes me a LONG time to get all the air out of the system.
You may want to check your water seperator too those are a hassel and they don't really do anything. It's a box like thing with fuel lines attacked to it infront of your tank. I just removed it and threw it in the garbage.

Yeah that sound like the right procedure.. I hook an electric fuel pump to the OUT on the IP and pump until there is no more bubbles in the clear line from the filter sending the fuel from the electric pump back to the tank through the return line . then I crack the lines at the tops of the injectors and crank until you get fuel from all of them. Re tighten the lines, glow and it should fire. if you crank for a while during the second step and aren't getting fuel check your fuel cutoff solenoid.
