Some people say adding Lucas to your oil can cause foaming in the oil. The people at bobistheoilguy.com  seem to hate the stuff. I know many cars that have used Lucas and haven't had any trouble.

have you noticed if it helps with oil consumption Duane?

Anything positive to report or just no problems?

I've ran it in my gear boxs in the past with no issues but not in my engine.

i only use Royal Purple 15w40. I have been using it for 3 years in my 1.6L TD and will NEVER use anything else again. Ever since i started it using it, the engine has never run better, gets better ful mileage, hardly ever blows black, and cured a cronic sticky lifter that i had had for 4 years prior. The oil cost around 10 bucks a litre but lets you go 10000km without worries.

PLUS, it pours out purple...haha.

Well I'm going to try it then.

Like I've said I've had good luck in gear boxs in the past.
As a matter a fact I had bought a Suzuki Samurai and I dumped some Lucas in the transfer case when I boughti, didnt drain any just added about half a bottle, when I whent to do the gear reduction in it a few months later everything in there was slippery as heck, it was all coated with the lucas.

maybe I'll throw some in my tranny then. It's crapping out and makes awful noises on the highway so what's the worst that can happen. I'm waiting for it to SMS so I can see how long you can drive with no gear oil

I think I'll do the same Tyler. I'm running Redline in it now but it cant hurt to have a good coat of slippery on the gears ;)

I know some Rover people used in their trannys and noticed a 20*F or more drop in oil temp.

tried it in a TD 1.6 .... the turbo didn't like the thicker oil and didn't spool up as quickly....

thats why some people have thought of making a closed loop setup just for the turbo... the thinner the oil the faster the spool  :D

i've always used lucas automatic transmission fluid whenever helping someone change their fluid out.  that stuff is amazing!  it's thicker though so it isn't a good idea to start and go when its really cold out.  better to let the car idle for 30-60 seconds, although the oil sticks to the gears and so it shouldn't be too big of a deal...  the only problem is that it is in fact thicker, and will net you worse mileage.  a better solution would be to use an oil with a friction modifier.  i have some of the oil extreme additive and have yet to try it, but am just itching   maybe when the time is right. www.oilextreme.com check it out.

as for the lucas foaming up... i highly doubt that! if their oil is foaming up from the lucas, they must have much worse problems!

royal purple is a pretty amazing oil.  it actually polishes metal surfaces.  sticky lifters is a really bad problem with all hydraulic diesels...  even using high quality oil mine sticks a bit...  maybe i'll have to buy some royal purple :)

if any Canadians are looking to get some royal purple here's a site.  they also sell diesel purge  :D  http://www.precisiontuning.ca/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=43_47_52&products_id=94

I have to admit the sticky lifter did not go away overnight...

It took a 1600km day redlining it from Billings, Montana to Vancouver, BC to do the trick...i was racing for the ferry that night to nanaimo and was pulling the ole 'Italian Tune-up" nearly all the way there over the Rockies and Snoqualmie....although i didn't make the ferry due to the border,  the car loved it and it speaks volumes for the Royal Purple...it continues to amaze me. The longer you use it, the more you will notice the benefits on your vehicle.

The foaming I have heard is if you mix Lucas with SOME of the pure synthetic oils. I believe the one in question is Mobil 1. My brother in law had foaming in one of his units and that is what he narrowed it down to. Reasoning he had was the lucas oil has a moly lube in it >>I think<< and the mobil has an additive in it that doesn't like the moly.
He said that you could put the two together in a jar shake and make butter. I just don't know for sure which oil combinations it was. But I guess his moral of the story was that some additive packages don't mix....I never personally watched the process though just what I have heard.

That is good stuff for sure.

I ran it on one oil change but didn't put it back in due to the ring issue I seem to have now. No need in burning $7.+ pr qt oil.
