I wouldn't get above 1300 F myself. On fairly flat road, mine ran around 900-1000, but mine isn't exactly aerodynamic, so takes more fuel.

I have a stock AAZ (standard exhaust, no IC) but a heavily-modified pump and I can pin my EGT past 1500F if I put my foot in it.

I use my foot to stay below 1300F and will obviously be adding boost/exhaust/IC in the near future.

AAZ in my Vanagon Syncro. I can put the gauge to as high as it goes (20k). Never done it and I have no plans to. During cruising its around 1100. No problems so far. Drag coefficient around 9000. Possibly more...

Scirocco with 1.6n/a w/td stuffs at 25 psi and tweaked pump. Maxes out at 1200. Drag coefficient around .3.

Neither engines have blown up or melted down. The scirocco gets about 1k miles put on it every three weeks.
