Title: 1.9 pistons in 1.6 block?
Post by: 935racer on May 03, 2005, 06:14:59 pm
I have heard someone machined the block to size and said the walls were too thin, would the 1.6 rods mate with the 1.9 wrist pins anyways? Has anyone tried this? I think it would bring the 1.6 to liek 1712 or so cc's

Also has anyone bolted on a 1.9 cylinder head? does it flow better? How about a 1.9 td injection pump? will it pump more fuel than my 1.6td pump? thanks

the 1.9L piston uses a bigger wrist pins and the compression height is different. not sure about the cylinder walls being too thin, but i'd doubt that was true. Probably better to have a custom piston made.
1.9L heads feature a nicer intake port, but the exhaust ports are absolutely horrible in the bowl area. Even then, the intake ports still kinda suck. They're a poorly executed improvement over 1.6L.

In that case, Doc, what do you recommend for a performance TD engine? A ported and polished 1.6 head or a equally prepped 1.9? Please share your thoughts about valve sizes as well. Thanks!

Yeah which head would be best and will the 1.9 pump flow more fuel? Like if I put on a 1.9 head and port and polish it and add on a vnt 17 turbo and big inectors is a 1.9 pump gonna help me make more power???

a ported 1.9L head would be the better option.
a 1.6 pump with a 1.9 camplate flows as well as a 1.9 pump.
