I have been trying to do some research on this particular turbo. With the highly ported 1.9 head going on my 1.6, and the Giles pump, I think I will have enough fuel and flow to spool it. Anyone here ever run this unit?

I found some compressor maps for comparison.
These first two are from a T3 45 trim, and a T04E 46 trim:

These next two are 50 trim. T3 first and then the T40E:

I am planning on running a T3 .48 A/R turbine, would like to go with a external wastegate.

Please let me know what you find out. I am planning a 1.6TD build this summer and I have a turbo block, but no manifolds or turbo...a gasser guy took all of that for his 1.8. I figure if I have to buy everything why not go for the best right away  . If you have any input before this summer's build let us all know how it goes.

From what I understand, the t3/t04E is a pretty good setup. The turbine side remains standard size T3 turbine wheel, which is smaller than the t04. This allows you to keep the quicker spool aspects of the t3. You have a couple of picks for A/R size, but .48 looks like the best for my application. I want the boost to come on sooner so I will stay away from the bigger A/R hotsides.
On the compressor side, a T04E housing and compressor wheel are added on. The T04E is a larger unit than the T3 and provides a greater flow of air. The design of the wheel is also much newer than the older T3 compressor wheels and is more efficient. From reading, it appears that the T04E will be a better choice for street use over the 4B or 4S setups.
It looks like there are a wide selection of trim levels. I still suck at figuring out compressor maps, but know that if you go to big you run into surge problems. I have seen online: 40, 42, 46, 50, and 57 trim options for the T04E compressor. They go bigger, but are not worth looking at for my application.
As an additional note, I think that I will be aiming for a external wastegate in the future. From a performance perspective, they have a slight advantage over the internal wastegate setup. You have a seperate exhaust dump tube that does not run back into the exhaust flow coming out of the turbine, thereby eliminating additional turbulance.
