guys,
i am currently using normal diesel and went to the inlaws on sat and did a 240 mile round trip and the car would happily get to 70mph but then would struggle and stutter to past this speed. i change the inline fuel filter as i had used bio recently and this did not change things. i noticed that once i reached 3000rpm the car would struggle so had to drive slowly the whole trip. turbo kicks in fine but even in lower gears the car would struggle at the 3000 rpm mark. any ideas?

Governor? No small air leaks?
-
sounds like a problem i had before, But you said you already changed the filter an no go?
Where would you get air leaks.....? im leaning towards a max idle adjustment...
i could be way off tho

hi bert, the first time i used cooking oil in my GTD i had this problem, changed the filter,no air in pipes etc, looked in the tank and found this

was well covered in rusty bits from the old filler neck, and general crap,i cleaned the tank and intank filter and its been ace since, not shure if the mk3 has a filter in the tank??

Saw a similar issue once. The pump's OUT banjo bolt for the return line was actually an IN. No internal case pressure, and therefore, no dynamic injection advance. Check the out bolt. It should have 'OUT' stamped on it.

changed fuel filter and removed inline clear fuel filter and the car now works fine. will be doing a 240 miles round trip this weekend and will have to see how she runs. the original fuel filter did not appear to have any gunk/crap coming out of it as i was concerned becuase i was using biodiesel at one stage. normal bio again for now....

That's something I'll have to keep in mind that I forgot about. I have an inline filter before my lift pump.

both filters on my car wear clean so it was strange that it did that
-
where in the tank is this filter on mk1's?
-
well, did the trip and the car ran brilliantly and i couldnt help flooring it every chance i got !
managed to cover 143miles on a quarter tank of fuel so not bad, better than the bio ever gave me.
