I use this one and haven't had any problems. The oil galley plug is the same as the freeze plugs (on the 1.6).

Oh, I thought you meant the plug in-line with the intermediate shaft by the oil filter.

there's really no good reason to remove any of the plugs on the motor except the coolant freeze plugs anyway, but if you already did, libby's way is best

I started up a rebuilt engine and oil was pooring from the timing belt area.
I found the oil galley plug was pushed out.
Well it looks like I have good oil pressure but now I need an oil galley plug.
I've found a good link on here to the TT store but it doesn't mention the size.
I measured the old one and got .536"
 Converts to about 13.6mm
Suppose a 15mm plug would do it?
 Anyone know the proper size?
Found a thread on the vortex that said they were supposed to be 14.25:

,.. that was in the 16V fora but should be accurate for our diesels.

Yea look closely in the hole..theres a drilled oil hole like 10mm deep inside the hole.
dont push the freeze plug in too far and block the oil hole.
im sure bad things would happen...same with drilling and tapping it,dont tap it too deep and block the oil hole when you thread it in.
Imo,theres not enough depth to tap it without getting into the oil hole.
study the oe plug, its shorter, thicker than any cheapo replacement.
even though i had to get a box of 5 or 10 from the dealer,it wasnt more than 15$...cheap enough to allow some waste i think as far as having extras you never use :)

I rekon that hole is the supply to the IM shaft bearing. The oil gallery plug is right in line with the opening in the IM bearing boss.

ETKA says 14mm and that's what I've used for 1.6 or 1.9 engines prior to ALH.  I've gotten the plugs from my local machine shop and they have worked without any issue.

I eneded up using a 9/16" plug from O'reily's,
worked great and was very close to the 14mm ones I ordered.

i think that feeds the bushing for the oil pump shaft, and lubricates the gears..

take that back, there is a notch in the IM shaft bearing that lubes the gears..
