Title: Yet another timing deal hear
Post by: zukgod1 on January 24, 2008, 08:49:09 am
So I get my engine all assembled and get the IP bolted on.
Cam locked in place, crank @ TDC and the pin in the IP, everything is right on as far as that goes so here is my problem.

My dang dial indicator is in inches instead of metric so I'm getting all confused when I turn the crank back wards till it stops moving (zero out) then back to TDC.

What should me dial read when I'm back to TDC?

My brain is fried right now, spent the last couple days @ the hospital with a dieing cousin so I cant think at all right now.
I looked up the conversion from mm to inches but I'm still confused as to what I'm seeing on the dial.

To cool...
So when going back up to TDC if I'm shooting for 1mm then .040 will be perfect..

I'm not sure why it's confusing me so much, I guess when your brain is fried there just isnt much you can do with it.

I just use the inches to mm conversion function of my calculator. No brain function needed.

I'm drafting up a pictorial HOW-TO for the "using the dial indicator" method of setting the static timing... a work in progress over the next week or so *but* I just happen to have pictures up of the dial indicator at various readings... might help you to picture what you are looking for ??

Thanks for the kind words...

I'm serious about "all comments welcome" btw... as you work thru it holler at stuff that is unclear or confusing.

And, it will have more and more pictures over the next week, for those of us who are visual learners !!  ;-)

Nope, I just got the old engine removed tonight.
I need at least one other person here to help me lift the engine off the stand and carry it out to the hoist then I can set it in place.

Getting closer though.
