Title: Where to put pyrometer
Post by: dieseldunebuggy on January 17, 2008, 10:54:05 am
I'm making a exhaust header for my 1981 vw rabbit with dual outlets for dual exhaust. Where should I put the pyrometer in the header for a good reading?

Close to the head. You will loose heat dramatically the further away you are.

Well cause Nitrogendioxide would be a really hard place to mount something solid :D

Oh, sorry. I would say 1 or 2 because they get the hottest. Farthest away from the oil pump and such.

I would think #2 or #3. They always seem to crap out first in my experience. Install 4 pyros :)

After my sand experiment, I'd say #3 gets the most air, so might run slightly cooler than #2, which is my basis for #2 over #3. Of course air doesn't have the mass of sand so it may be more equal than I give it credit for.

I have ported and polished the head. Knowing that would you still say #2 cylinder over #3 cylinder.
