Title: oil pump

I'm rebuilding an '85 Quantum engine now for my 356TD project. and I want to put in a new oil pump while I'm at it.

This engine is a solid lifter type, would it be worth while to install a newer style  oil pump from a hyd. lifter engine -- as I've heard that they are larger capacity? It also seems that the newer Meyle pump is actually about $20 cheaper  :?:

You just need new bolts because the 36mm pump is taller

What engines had the 36mm pump?  I'm ordering online, and I know they were an OEM application.  Just want to make sure I'm getting the right one.

92 TDs defiantly had them but I'm not sure of the exact range

I would, for sure, but I'm ordering a few hundred $$$ of engine parts for a rebuild from autohausaz, not just an oil pump.   I'm getting free shipping.  Their parts are German unless noted, and the prices are fantastic.  I'm sure mike_w is a great guy to do business with, though.  Does he sell everything to rebuild an engine? How would I get in contact with him?  I wouldn't mind giving him a shot.

I bought all my parts to rebuild my TD from Myke W.

36mm pump, new KB pistons, Rod bearings, main bearings, int shaft bearings, head gasket & bolts, gasket/seal set, mounts, injector nozzles, and some antifreeze hoses.

He gave fast service and every part was excellent quality.  All was German OEM I think except for the Glyco main bearings which If I remember right were Made in USA.
