Just wanted to know what everyone is using on their 1.9 TD's. Right now im running the stock clutch, but i plan on swapping trannies soon and i might aswell replace the clutch since I know its gonna go soon. I plan on adding power soon aswell (havent yet cause tranny and clutch are weak). This is a daily driver so I would like a stock feeling clutch, but with more grip. I heard using a performance 8v clutch works...but which flywheel and pressure plate??
Any comments appreciated.

Well I have an AAZ in my Vanagon Syncro. It runs around 28PSI with a good turbo and about 20PSI with a failing turbo :p I have the stock clutch. On the other vanagons that I have put TDI Stage 2 setups into, I use a KEP stage 2 PP and stock everything else. No slippage.
Right now I have a 210mm clutch in my Scirocco with a lightweight flywheel. I was running about 23PSI intercooled with pump mods and it never slipped. I am now installing a 1.9l head (brand new) and a 1.9l head gasket. I wont talk about my plans with the gasket for now as I dont know if I am getting the results I plan on (no leaks). But I will definitely post up when I know what work and what doesnt.
Do the flywheel for certain. 1st gear will hate you if you dont!

i would also like to know what clutch setup is best for an AAZ. Mine is almost done, will go very soon and will need to replace. With regards to cost what should i do. Get another stock clutch, new/junkyard. Change to a 8V. What modifications will i need to do to run an 8V clutch?

I am going to be installing a 8v disk and 16v pressure plate tomorrow on my IDI. Will let you know how it goes!

will a clutch from a VR6 bolt into an AAZ,
what other clutches from other models will bolt into the AAZ, pressure plate and disk, or just the disk with the AAZ pressure plate

I think you need to look at it from a different perspective. It's not which clutch bolts to which engine. It's a matter of which clutch is used by which tranny. As far as I know, any VW/Audi transversly mounted 4-cyl engine will bolt to any transversly mounted 4-cyl transmission. The transversly mounted VR6 engines and transmissions have a different bellhousing bolt pattern than the 4-cyls, although some of the transmission codes are the same.
The 020 transmissions use a completely different flywheel/pressure plate configuration than the later style 02A/02J/02M transmissions. Now a VR6 clutch may work in one of those later transmissions, but it definately won't work in an 020.
The real question is which transmission are you using? Once that has been established, it will be much easier to give you some advice on which clutch to use.

I'm going to need a clutch this year,(getting some slippage). I've heard this works on the AAZ (210 mm clutch). How about some part numbers for the disc/pressure plate?

I think what i have is a 020, from what i remember, whatever was used in a 93 jetta with an AAZ. So your saying no vr6 clutch will work but possibly other 4 cyl. engines with 020 trannys??
Please confirm

correct, the AAZ used the 020 trannys. The AAZ uses a 210mm clutch, so the earlier 020 setups will not work unless you get a new flywheel as well because they are 190mm.

what the best clutch for an 020, is there a large benefit to use the 8v disk and 16v pressure plate?
