Title: '89 1.6 TD power upgrades ???

I am about to stuff a 1.6 TD into my Samurai and wonder what you fellows do to upgrade the power output. I am a 40+ year heavy equipment and truck mechanic but have zero experience with this little engine.

Any ideas or links to other sites would sure be appreciated. The only thing I know about this engine is it is a low mile VW factory reman short block and it has a T-3 turbo. I will probably build  a small version of the home brew propane injection I have on my ISB Cummins. I have all ready drilled and tapped the exhaust manifold for a pyrometer.
