Title: Dyno'd the Caddy, need help fine tuning

The Caddy was on the rollers a few weeks ago and posted a high of 203.1 hp of 3 runs. The shop (Allspeed of Peachtree City Ga) didn't have an adapter to read the revs for a chart of the torque. Here are the details according to my Auto Meter gauges: 203.1 hp @ 4000rpm (custom fuel cutoff), boost reached 45 psi, and egt approx. 2000 degrees. The block is stock AFN, 1Z head (8K miles), Garrett GT 2056 wastegated turbo (rebuilt with upgraded journal and thrust bearing), R520 w/custom pressure injectors, LT 12mm ip (Giles super pump mod set to 80% flow), fmic and 2" dp and straight pipe. Should I add w/m setup or custom intake and exhaust manifolds, and larger intercooler?

Also, what about a ALH head....supposedly better flow than a ported 1Z/AHU head?

AWESOME! Especially after Giles worked his "majic"! Im desperately trying to post a few vids of the runs. This pump is capable of supplying huge amounts of fuel. A few mods need to be done for the head to fit.

Better results with less alloy tubing getting heat soaked

dual fan also, larger radiator

What wheels are those, I trimmed 1.75 off each side of my rear axle for no more rubbing problems when lowered..

why the fuel cut off?  why so much boost?  whats up with your egts  :o :o :o :o  could probably make the same power with less egt at a lower boost level, like 30psi

with that much EGT I would invest in a Holset. You could run 1/2 the boost and have lower EGT. Good numbers. The other thing I would do to lower the EGT is go to 2.5" exhaust all the way. Water meth would help, but to get this to live I think you need some better hard parts. Then you could see what is needed or if you want to go custom on the exhaust and intake.  Realistically on a 9mm pumped 1.9 XUD you're looking at reliably up to 170bhp at 26psi.

 Consider this option if you want fast spool combined with respectable power, without the added issue of controlling VNT's. Suited to less-gov shimmed engines than a TD04 as the power band is much lower, wouldn't recommend revving to 6krpm.

 Currently running 24psi on the estate, 20psi by 2250rpm, peak boost at 2750rpm. Cruising speeds 4psi at 60mph, 7psi at 70mph.

DO NOT overspeed or dewastegate these as they have a habit of snapping shafts, my last one went at about 34psi. Keep it sensible, it's more fragile than the seemingly bombproof T25 and TD04, however spools FAR quicker.

The holset 200wg, which is from what I gather what used to be the he211w, would be a much better option. If you have instant boost along with your EGT condition, then that turbo is a restriction at max rpm.

I figured the number of 16lbs/min I had were off as the T3 would do that much, but I couldn't find much of anything on them. Even at 27lb/min the littler holset flows 32lbs/min IIRC and would still be efficient at his boost levels.
But as I said, if you want it to last you probably should change some hard parts. No need for a custom exhaust manifold if you cant get it out of the 2" exhaust. I also am curious about what intake you are running.

Thanks for in input everyone. This is a "mock" setup. The intake is made by Spearco, an aluminum part from an aftermarket turbo kit for the NA 1.6 diesel. The exhaust manifold is very similar to the stock cast gasser type made to accept the turbo. The exhaust is crimp bend restrictive. My goal is to upgrade the components around the pump. I will not push the engine to the limits.

@ Rabbitjockey: I requested the cutoff @4k because there is little to gain after that. The boost valve has not been set also. Keep in mind that I'm in the test and tune stage. Also, it takes fuel to make boost!

I just looked at your sig line and saw .216 nozzles on top of all the other stuff. If you want to make power you should get at least the .260 or .275 nozzles.

That much boost on a GT 2056 will look like this if you don't take it down...

did you port the intake to match the tdi D style ports?  how is the fueling limited at 4k if you have an m pump?  there is much to be gained above 4k especially if you have good flowing parts.  tdi can handle up to 6k as long as the flow is there and the pump is tuned properly.

I didn't match the intake to the block, i'll check that out. I wanted the rev limiter set @4k. Im sure more power can be made above that mark.

What do you have holding the head down (arp studs, etc.?) ? I would assume at that amount of boost you will most definitely have the head gasket as a weak link. Also I agree with what was said about the flow of that turbo and the high egts. Without looking into it I think it is safe to assume that you are pushing it far outside of the map. If you were to add water methanol injection with the current setup I think it is safe to say that might cause more harm then good with slightly increased cylinder pressure which you are already pushing pretty hard. Or the possibilty that slight boost in power could help you over spool that turbo for the last time.

With a larger turbo though the water methanol injection with proper setup can help you spool slightly quicker so you wont notice much difference in spool time. Although my home brew setup in my truck was only hooked up for a short period of time it was a serious boost of power when it engaged (boost referenced on) that helped me light my turbo. Then this will also help get the egt's down to a point where you are going to want to ditch that rev limit.  ;D
