Turbo Worries

Hey guys... I have a question/concern/story for you all

Last night (monday nights) is our local VW forum's meet night.  I usually show up early before people.  One of the high power modded TDI guys rolled in and was making one hell of a racket for a TDI....

Long story short, his turbo crapped out on him just before getting to the meet.

This got me wondering about a few things
I'm pushing ~1 bar on my k24, I've heard of people pushing almost 2 bar out of the little k24's... what's the life expectancy on a k24 at those pressures? Anyone?

If *MY* Turbo decides to go, besides a T3 (about the same?) , what's a turbo with a slightly higher A/R? a k26? and since I'm a junkyard junkie, which cars would be possible candidates?Audi 4ks? Saab 900s? Volvo 200 series?

Call me crazy, but after seeing that happen.  I'm just slightly worried about potential dangers that may arise later on.

Audi 5k usually have a K26 on them. Volvos and Saabs usually run a variation of a t3. The audi 4k, 100,200 usually have a k24 on them.

Just get a vnt20. :D

I have no idea what came with those but Id love to find one in the wrecking yard.

I know that they at least came on the V6 TDI engines.  I've got one in my A4.  They're not integrated into the exhaust manifold like some other 4-cyl TDI engines.

Here's a pic for you... (my replacement turbo)...
