"Skipping" over bumps

(1/1)

VW Scully:
Hey everyone;
I am not sure if my rear shocks are wearing out, but it seems like when I am travelling at speeds above 80km/h and I hit a bump, the car sort of 'skips' or shimmies at the rear end a bit kind of like a garbage trailer would with no load on it.
Does that make sense??  :?:  It just seems like it's not 'sticking' to the road like it should when I'm at highway speeds.
Would that be the shocks?
Thanks! :)

Yes.

dieselvet:
Worn rear axle bushings can cause a similar sensation in turns and over bumps. Check them when you have the shocks checked.

fspGTD:
Most likely your shocks are totally worn out, as most people don't even think to maintain these components.  Put some bilsteins or konis in there and freshen up your rubber suspension bushings as well if they are the originals while you have your suspension apart.  You will be amazed how much nicer the car drives and how much better it handles with a set of quality shocks and fresh rubber bushings!  :)

Patrick:
Get a tape measure out and get someone to give you a hand to check the toe in (or out) on the front end. Bad alignment on these cars can really mess up drivability!
