I've been planning to do that for years but never got around to it. I even have a Dodge 5 speed from an old Omni that had the Rabbit motor with all the proper mounts, clutch, starter etc. It would be too easy.
cool it's an ontario van
Gets better mileage then my freakin Jetta too
He seems to have figured out how to connect the dodge shifter to VW tranny as he mentioned welding Dodge and VW axles together to get the tranny in.
I was suprised by the mileage claim too, the caravan has got to be both heavier and less areodynamic.
I thought he just installed the whole vw shifter linkage. Aren't the shifters on those vans normally on the steering column?
Some of the early Caravans had a 5spd, I've never seen one, but have seen them advertised. Most are automatic and column shifted. The one in the video doesnt look like a VW shifter
Column shifted standard transmisions? That is what I learned to drive on, but other than forklifts, I havent seen one newer than early 70s base model 6 cylinder chev trucks. I always thought they were cool to drive, but the linkage was a bit of a bear when it got worn a bit.
I bet his speedo is wrong. ot much of a surprise the shifter works, the Caravan design was bought from VW by Dodge, and it is just a cheaper bloated rabbit.
BTW, that is the Dodge 5 speed shifter.
