One Speed Engine: Fast

Hi guys, new here but not new to diesel.  Hope that I'm in the right Forum.

I just got a new to me car with a 1.6 na in it.  It was sold as not working.  I plumbed up a quicky over head fuel supply and she fired right up, wide open.  The position of the throttle and the manual timing advance have no effect on engine speed.

What could be wrong?

I am definitely no expert however I offer my 2 cents. I would suspect the Injector Pump being stuck WOT internally. Is this vehicle in question a VW 1.6L?

Thanks guys, I was afraid that something is wrong inside the pump.  Especially after I started monkeying around and discovered that the fuel screw and the idle adjust appear to be in their factory positions.  Did those pumps come from the factory with yellow paint or lock tite on the fuel screw and idle adjust?

Looks like I will have to print out the tear down instructions and clean the pump out.  I guess that's the proper order, and then I can read more of Hagar's Saga.

Yes, earlier ones like mine have the yellow "Torque-Seal" paint. This forum is very helpful. There are some very knowledgeable folks here that can help you.

Try running the car on pure ATF or diesel purge before you go tearing the pump apart. It might free itself up. Keep it in gear though and maybe have it up on jack stands (if you can't go ripping down the road at WOT)

hehe that would be fun!  if you do decide to run diesel purge (which is a great idea) then disconnect the little boot from the air filter housing so you can block it in case you need to shut off the motor (say if the engine started to run away...)

it does sound like something has been tampered with though... check the all the adjustment screws for the yellow paint... if it all seems okay, then proceed with the treatment :)
