Youīre right about the original pump in my Caddy, it is a Lucas. :)

I was out testing some things yesterday and ground the "stop" for the LDA lever down so it has more movement. But still have to take the top of and figure out what has to be done to the pin.

Where can I get a dial indicator to set my pump timing with? Any online stores in UK that offers them for a good price? I also need a EGT gauge with sender. I checked aircraft spruce out but havenīt decided on which one to get.

Iīm gonna try and get the whole engine and tranny from the junkyard Passat I took the pump from before they press it. Iīm curious if the tranny would fit the Caddy. Maybe with small modifications?

My engine doesnīt work anymore...

I lost a valve! The engine started to make ugly noises and then suddently just locked up. I removed the valve cover and there it was (or wasnīt) =)

The exhaust valve on cyl 2 is missing. The lifter is shattered to pieces and the valve must be on top of the piston because I canīt rotate the engine in that direction at all.

So tomorrow Iīm going to the junkyard to get the cyl head from the passat and install it together with a new timing belt, pulley and gaskets.

The timing belt must have slipped a notch and caused the damage. The engine was driven at least 100 km after the new pump was installed and was running just great. And now this. But I guess itīs learning money.

At what mileage is the timing belt supposed to be changed? My Caddy has 160000 km on the meter. I suppose it was changed at 100000 km by the previous owner. But havenīt found any documentation to prove it.

I guess I was lucky that the engine was idling at the moment for the disaster, otherwise I would have more missing valves.

Well, I should have it up and running in a couple of days again. Just have to wait for the head gasket to arrive.

Later! :)
