Alternative MC & Booster

(1/2) > >>

72malibu:
I have been away for a few yrs. It is time to put the Rat back in the garage and get it back on the road.

At the risk of being cast out of the Rabbit hutch, I wish to propose a brake question.

Has anyone ever swapped out the mc & booster on an Mk1 for a universal GM style mc & booster?

Why? To me the one pc master cylinder is better than a two pc version where you have rubber bushings that seem to either good bad or are ill fitting (my experiences anyway). Plus, I can get the whole assembly for $150 new. Not so with the Rabbits stock parts.

Anyways, what do ya'll think? Good idea? Bad idea?

fatmobile:
ORC I think you put this response in the wrong post.

One pc master cylinder? What does that mean?

ORCoaster:
Don't even know how that happened.  Removed it as you mostly told him the same thing.

72malibu:
1 pc master cylinder is the cast iron, 2 bowl GM style. One solid piece whereas my beloved Rats mc is two pieces plus a few rubber donuts.

fatmobile:
Oh I see what you mean. GM is one piece master and reservoir.
I don't think I've heard of anyone trying that on a VW.
