85 jetta non ac alt to ac alternator wiring
« on: May 16, 2022, 08:38:41 pm »
So the origanal alt had a 3 prong connection(2 red and 1 white) and a black spade connector. Now im going to an ac style alternator and the conections are different it has a b+ and d+ and w. What i need to know is where do i hook up the origanal connections. I was going to post some pictures but cant figure out how.

The black spade is probably w and shouldn't need the end changed.

B+ goes to battery so it gets a big lug.

I think the blue wire (probably not white) needs a small lug. D+

I figured the b+ was the battery but what of the original wires goes to that lug. Is it the 2 red wires on the 3 wire plug

Right, 2 red wires are battery.
Looks like they use a blade instead of the small lug for the blue D+ wire.
 Black is probably W.

ok, so after digging in there a little more there is a 2 prong connector that has a blue and red wire i dont know where it goes but following the harness theres only those 2 wires and on the other side theres the red wire and a big yellow wire then it goes into another loom thats seems to go up to the white wire on the alt plug. i dont know if its the same wire but it seems like it. I think the wiring has been messed with. I found some more blue wires that were twisted together one end goes to the firewall the other seeems to go to the ac compressor

Ok, after taking apart some of that loom i found some interesting things. The 2 spade conection by the battery connects to the plug going to the alternator the blue wire is twisted to the yellow wire which is then twisted to the white wire on the main alt plug. So the white is the blue wire so it goes to the D+ on the alt right? Then the red/black wire connects to the lone black wire that was on the alt thats the W wire correct.

Right, blue to the D+.
 red/black to the W.
