turn signal electrical and wiring help

(1/1)

Iamvandemon:
Hello,

I attached some wire leads onto the wires running from the relay to the rear lights. The wire leads are sealed and do not connect to anything.

With the leads attached the turn signals do not work anymore. When the car is running the indicator has a very slight glow and when your engage the switch, the indicator lights up brightly but does not blink. The turn signals do not come on at all. If I supply 12v to the leads the turn signals light up normally.

My only guess is that the leads somehow affect the proper function of the relay. I ordered a new relay (the type for leds) but I'm not sure that it is gonna fix the problem. What really confuses me is that the indicator has a slight glow when turn signals not engaged. hmm....

Thanks for any Ideas

What kind of car?

Iamvandemon:
It is a 1991 2dr VW Jetta with a 89' 1.6l IDI. Thanks...

Idea:  LEDs are very low resistance compared to filament bulbs.  You are not putting enough resistance on the system to make it work properly.

Turns out it was the relay. I unplugged it then plugged it back in and presto! Thanks for the suggestions.
