intercooler/pump questions
« on: May 17, 2004, 07:25:02 pm »
hey...im trying to put an intercooler on my car and was wondering where you guys are putting them on your cars.  i have looked and looked but can't find a suitable spot for one. please post pics of your engine bay with intercooler if you have some.

and also.....how much difference will a 1.9ltd pump make on my 1.6ltd.
i have one in my shed and was wondering if it could be used.

Thanks for your time

sorry about that.
I have a 1984 Turbo Diesel Rabbit with air-conditioning.(its stock, not a swap)
anyway i have 2 intercoolers lying around:
one off an audi 5000
and one off a 1.8t new beetle.
If I remove the air conditioning there is room in between the radiater and grill but i kinda want to keep it cuz it works.

Also will the 1.9l pump be any better....because I have mine set up so if I put it to the floor it smokes alot!! and if I turn the fuel screw anymore it doesn't change the power.

i pulled the AC out of my rabbit... extra weight, extra drag, and we live in CANADA EH! you're in alberta, even colder there than it is here...

i'd ditch the AC regardless, but especially if you want to intercool.

if we were down south it would be another story.. and the extra work it would take to intercool + keep AC might be worth it... but i just don't think AC is necessary in the north... roll a window!  :D

I recommend using the "search" feature on both the old and new forums.  Old forum is at: http://vwgtd.hopto.org

Here is a thread from the old forum with pictures of intercooler installations:

Good luck and have fun!

thanks for the help...
fspGTD I see that you have the same intercooler as me and was wondering if you had any trouble fitting it infront of the radiator.  did you have to move the raditor back a couple inches or did it just fit in there how it was?
