'97 Passat Canadian Tdi or IDI?
« on: June 21, 2006, 01:24:11 am »
Wondering what engine came in a '97 Canadian Passat. Local junkyard has one and said I could have the engine for $550 pulled! We rarely see a diesel in the junkyard, espeacially in Hawaii. Looking to put a diesel in one of my Vanagons someday!

Thanks in advance!

It could have been either. They started selling the Passat TDI in north America in 96.

Well, yeah...if it was a regular 1.9TD it would be engine code AAZ and if it was a TDI it would have a 1Z engine code. Other more obvious things would be that the TD would have the "UFO" on top of the injection pump. The TDI might still have a big plastic engine cover that says "TDI" and the TDI would also have an intercoler.
