That's sweet!  Did they make this from the factory for the European market?  I've been thinking about swapping a diesel engine in a Cabby here in the US for my neice who's turning 16 next year...  She wants a veggie oil car like her uncle.

The complete engine looks disgusting, front is completely soaked in oil due to the headgasket leaking.. I started it yesteday to check if the pump was working, and it runs.. a bit rough but now I know when I put the head back on that the injectionstuff works.

but hey, I bought it for €605 euros so I don't mind some work ;)

The cabby was never sold with a diesel so thats why this is pretty rare and I had to buy it   Swapping the engine is not the problem, when changing the fuel from gas to diesel on title (on a car that has never been sold with any D or TD) the car has to undergo a lot of testingwork by our department of transportation. And that costs a lot of €€€

Here is my old project car:

everything stripped besides the brakes and wheels, else it would be a pain getting it onto the trrailer ;) the 1.9 AAZ & brakes & wheels wil  eventually be transplanted into the cabby after I get a title on it.

Not everybody hates US people overhere, just a few ;)

The audi is a great tower, 120km/h on the german highway with the cabby on the trailer   and it has a detachable tow-thing to keep the rear clean when it is not needed ;)

Yes, that is an A3 ;)

I plugged the top-vent while running (just after cold start) and it instantly build some pressure up and the fron of the engine is soaked with oil so I pulled the head so I can have a good look at it tomorrow.

I think it needs reringing and a new set of bearings to get it in a bit of shape...

It's been awhile.

Any updates on this diesel Cabby?  I wish they had made them diesel here in the US.

I'd love to see a picture of the Caddy project truck when it was finished.

it's been a loooong while.. I didn't go on with that project (I still have the VIN and paperwork ;)) , I came across a better base for a cab-project, after painting, new interior, roof, wheels:

it's a '79 gasser (1.8 Digifant-II)

mmh.. 2 small problems:

VIN of a '79 cabby is on the right hand innerfender (near top of the shocks), not on the firewall like the '86er the VIN is from.
VIN of the diesel cab is a german registered car, so I have to reimport a alredy imported car with completely different color/setup.

When I'm done with my new VW transporter 1.9TD project (the engine from the caddy), and I find a nice VIN swap object and drop a 1.9TDI in or something ;)
