Anyone have experience with a BMW 524TD?
« Reply #15 on: April 30, 2006, 06:27:48 am »
Hi to all (my first post). :)

I have a '95 318 tds, which is the non- intercooled, 4 cyl version of the 325tds. They both were the most powerfull diesels in their displacement when they got out    I love it.

Stats:
1665cc
90hp
190Nm
50mpg

My question is (and sorry for the thread-jacking   ): How much is 20Nm worth in your opinion? Reputable local chip companies advertise 17hp and 20Nm gain, but it costs €500 (a bit more in dollars). I think it's a bit high...

Thanks.

PS: I do have a crush for the golf MKII TD

Google search Al Taylor deisel" and you'll find an acquaintence of mine who has mated a 524TD to a 4 speed manual transmission- - and it's a race car! I don't know too much about it but it sounds like a great road car to me (The 524 diesel crank is also very desireable if you want to build a 3.0 stroker motor small 6).
I, too, have wanted to know more about these engines and if they can be mated to a regular Getrag 5 speed (e30 325).

Hi,

i have one for more than 5 years know and yes the M21 is a great engine.
Actually i have 200hp with stock pump, i will make pump mod in a few weeks, than
230hp should be captable. The "standard" E30, E34..... 5 gear getrac gearbox fit with
the M21 engine, my E28 for example came stock with that gearbox.

As mentionted before, the engine really likes to rev, my goes up to 6000rpm with no problem.
So if you can get one, take it and have fun.
