So my current exhaust is about as sealed as a sieve wrapped in aluminum foil. Needless to say its much worse when its cold and I dont know about the rest of you, but the fresh smell of NOx in my cabin in the morning is not entirely desirable.
The closest Ive come to finding a new system is a tectonics downpipe but I theyre not getting back to me on options for a full system. The pipe looks beautifully made but isnt 2.25" overkill for a stock engine?

Anyway, does anyone have any viable replacement options?
Overkill? No. Port your intake and exhaust ports on the head.....or even just the exhausts and you will pretty much loose any turbo lag. I sure did. Port the manifolds to match.
The pipe is rather expensive though. Just don't wreck the car after you put it on. Go straight to the rear bumper with no muffler.
So thats it? Arent there any aluminized, cheapo crimp-bent options out there?
If you want cheaper have an exhaust shop locally make you something. The downpipe made of mandrel bent stuff will be expensive no matter what. The bends cost money and you have to cut and weld them just so. If you want it to be easy and fit it will not be cheap.
After much digging I've found some NOS Bosal pipes floating around eBay.
Here are the part numbers for the 3 piece system to fit MK1 1.6TD Jettas and Golfs. Non-turbo are different.
Downpipe:
VW: 171253091C
Bosal: 782-229
Midpipe:
VW: 171253209E
Bosal: 282-247
Muffler:
VW: 171253609K (Golf), 161253609H (Jetta)
Bosal: (still looking!)
I think that is 1.75 inch pipe. That is what was stock.
