Help with tuning and increased boost
« on: September 01, 2015, 08:52:15 pm »
Hello, New guys here. We just picked up a 1985 VW Jetta 1.6L Turbo Diesel. Car has about 330,000 KMs . This is our first time ever working on a turbo Diesel.

We have a little over a week to build this car for Mini Stock races and then Demo Derby at the end of the night.

We already have a fuel Tank in the back seat, dual batteries to run 12V, We plan to have a Big Rig stack out the back window.

We have already turned up the Pump max fuel screw. Soon to Mod the governor.

But what we are looking for help with is how to turn up the boost. Right now we have about 8psi . I have been doing some reading and I hear you can safely put it up around 20 psi ?  The car will be running hard, WOT for about 15 laps at a time. Maybe 30 minute rests between races. I want more power but I also want it still running at the end of the day.

Can any one help? I can't seem to find any pics on the subject anywhere.

It sounds like you want to hack up a classic VW and then destroy it completely.  That's not something I'd want to help with.

It was already on its way to the scrap heap, so now I hope you can sleep easy tonight...

The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

If you're wanting it for demo derby purposes then longevity probably isn't much of a concern.  Just disconnect the wastegate boost line and it'll create as much boost as it can. Though boost without fuel won't really do much for ya...
