Trying to time my motor and I was wondering how many different versions of timing marks are out there on the flywheel. Am I right to think the pressure plate can go on only one way? There are two pins on the flywheel and I verified they were inserted into thw notches on the pressure plate. When I timed my engine I installed the timing belt a few times to make sure I did it right, same thing with timing the pump. Timed at 1mm at tdc. Cam locked and loostened the sprocket for adjustment.

The pressure plate does have pins to align it correctly. But the timing dots, notches, or whatever are on the FLYWHEEL, that is what the pressure plate attaches to.
SO, if you are having trouble starting the car now I would remove the belt and the glow plug out of the cylinder #4, nearest the Flywheel. I would use one of the methods mentioned in several of the threads here to get to the Top of the Piston Stroke to validate TDC. There should be something on that flywheel. Once I have found that information put it all back together with the IP pump locked, the Cam locked and the tension taken up out of the Timing Belt in the proper manner to make sure that whatever mark it was you saw at TDC is still showing once it is locked in place.
Do the mandatory turning over of the engine by hand a few times and see if stuff still lines up. If OK, then try a start on it.

Well I think I am going to pull the oil pan and put a dial indicator in it and verify tdc, make a new mark if need be.

Well I got home checked timing marks again, everything is spit on so I move to timing the pump. Well I have been reading my dial indicator wrong it needs 1 full revolution to reach 1mm I have been doing a tenth of that hahahah. Any way its late so tomorrow I will retime the pump and see whaT happens.

When the cam lobes are up, the pump is on the mark of the bracket and the pulley I generally don't have to take it back very far to get the dial gauge to stop moving backwards. I push it in far enough that I end up with almost 2 mm of measure as my preloaded value before I back up the pump.
With the four lobes inside the pump one quarter revolution of the pump would take you over one of the high spots in the cam plate and you would see your values on the dial gauge go up and down again.
Not sure I follow this one revolution thing.

The dial indicator I was using required one full rotation to reach 1mm from zero.
Well I timed it and it fired up.
