Some vin funkiness that can perhaps get cleared up
« on: November 04, 2014, 04:28:56 pm »
Hey everyone,

I have known this for a while but just recently have been curious about it. As we all know we have 4 places on our vehicles where vins are. I was doing some work on it a while ago and noticed that all of my veins match except for one place, the rain tray is different but not by much. I'm unaware of how unique this is but here it goes.

Everywhere else:
1VW EG0 17 1GV 025500
Rain tray:
1VW ZZZ 17 ZGV 025500

According to the vin decoding website www.clubvw.org.au\vwvin my car is a MK1? What do you all think? I think the odd rain tray number is for the assemblers to know what trim etc it had.

It is my understanding  that ZZZ is given during assembly prior to deciding what options will go on the vehicle.

All registered VW ive seen in Norway has the "ZZZ" the plate in the raintray is the one thats used...

The "17" says MK1, but it may be different on westmoreland cars? MK2 should say 19 in this location...

that is a westmoreland car, the first digit being 1 means it was made in the USA, because we're #1 USA! USA! USA!
