Turbo options for original 1.6 Turbo Diesel mk1 engine
« on: March 12, 2014, 01:04:41 pm »
Was told the seals in the turbo are bad from the previous owner, i haven't got to drive the car yet but I would like to replace the turbo anyways as the whole motor was just rebuilt. What are my options that will bolt up to the 1.6 TD engine originally offered in 83' and 84' from volkswagen? The turbo on it now has KKK in a triangle from what I can see. Would like a bolt up and go turbo as this is no high performance machine but will take anything into consideration. Thanks in advance!

Well, the only thing that will bolt right up to both the manifold and the exhaust is the same exact thing.

You could send it out to be rebuilt. gpop-shop charges something like $450.

We used gpop-shop for our T3 rebuild. Had it on the car for the past 3 years. Happy with it.

T3 and K24 are bolt on. T2 and K14 are bolt on but you need to change/fab the oil return line and change the intake hose.
