This was a split topic, but had nothing much to do with the original thread at all.. It may not make total sense where we started talking but it all makes sense for what is here.. How much did your 210mm flywheel from 92 Golf weigh? I am thinking of doing the same with a 1.6TD going into Caddy but have heard that with diesel motors need at least 11lbs and up to work well - is there a minumum of sorts weight that a flywheel should be for using with diesel motors?
Was there a noticable difference in how the motor performed and do you consider this a practicul worthwhile conversion?
I don't think any lighter than a stock 210mm flywheel is needed. 210mm is quite a bit lighter than the stock 200mm for that extra 5mm all the way around of extra machined surface. I am using a completely stock 210mm gasser setup with stock Sachs clutch kit on my AHU M-TDI right now and it revs up fantastically quick!

Wow - what trans do you have mated up to AHU and if an 020 - I have heard the TDIs eat them up with all their torque???
What mTDI pump are you using???

I am using an 020 yes. It is an 86 ACN code. You could eat any transmission with enough hook up. The problem is hookup. Pretty much impossinle without "extreme" tires. I run a typical all season and i have no problem getting wheel spin in 1st 2nd and 3rd. No harm to transmission if its not doing anything lol.
I am using a handbuilt frankenpump at the moment, a mixture of 1.6 na 1.6 td 1.9 aaz and 1.9 ahu pumps
. Custom internal throttle lever and boost pins.

Wow - that exactly what I have and am planing on - ACN - do you have the 80% Peloquin shim kit in yours and did you decide against the .71 - 5th gear verses the .75 that comes in ACN or was that one an extra that I got? Do you have an RPM gauge? if so and you have .75 or .71 - 5th what MPH are you traveling at like say 2K or 2.2K? How do you like ACN tranny coupled up to TDI? Fun to drive around town and maybe great on highway - too? Correct? Did you use ARP bolt kit in your ACN with TDI?

I had pulled the .71 5th for use in the ACN correct
. I didn't end up using it as it would literally drop the RPM like 300.. and it wasn't worth it to me. I do not have the 80% kit, although I am thinking I am going to want it before winter gets here! LOL I get one wheel spin on corners on dry pavement! lol
I use this
site for all my gear ratio calculations. At 100km/h in 5th with the ACN and 185/60/14's I do 2600rpm's. The k03 turbo is what makes it fun to drive around town, that and the ample torque for the weight of the car. If this transmission were on anything less than 130ft. lbs it would be the grossest thing I could think of. Those gears are way far apart. Apparently it originally came off the lower HP 1.8 gas engines? disgusting! LOL
I did nothing with the trans before I put it in to service! lol I bought it used, dropped the fluid, changed the flange seals and installed it. I shoulda had the kit ready to swap in to it! I had the trans on the ground and flanges off! haha, but I am using the 90mm axles and the guy advises against it.

How does the TDI compare to a 1.6TD in the 84 Jetta and what kind of MPG can you get with highway driving?

I am still working out kinks of the Mechanical aspect of my swap. My pump is far from optimal. That is why I have a 2.5L LAnd Rover pump waiting to go on and some .216 injectors
. So in reality.. I may be on par or slightly less than the stock AHU in the mk3. Not for long though. Also I am not yet intercooled.
Although it is hard to really compare any two engines.. I look at it this way. For much less effort you can make double the torque right out of the box with a TDI. I swapped my original 1.7EN gas for a 1.6NA and then to this TDI .

Yeah I got the Veg Injection nozzles, which actually measure to be closer to .238 as opposed to the .216 they state. That and I have a T3 that may just well make its way on there with a custom intake at some point...
I feel the Rover pump and nozzles will be more than the 020 can handle, so I'll have to take it relatively easy on the ol' girl.. but not too easy
. I am still in the learning process with all of this, but I have some excellent help along the way from members on here. For starter I am going to be mounting the rover pump and running it as is to get a base power and feel. I will probably be doing the nozzles first, so I can rule out any power gain from doing them at the same time as the Rover pump. I am virtually getting no smoke at all right now with my setup, so the injectors may be my bottle neck.
I don't see what about the 12mm bosch pump would idle any differently than the 11m bosch pump, they both use the same style governor if I am not mistaken?
LibbyDiesel on here is in the process of building brand new 12mm bosch pumps fully tuned for TDI equipping.. Can't recall his asking price though. I'd shoot him a PM if you are interested.

found the split ends ( : - ok thanks for coments - make sense what you say about 12 and 11 pumps - but Karl does 10mm pumps for most AHUs - he just happen to sell a 12mm last but the Rovers seem to have a bit of a harder idle from what I have been told before and Karl mentioned it also but the 4Bs seem to just sit there at idle and purr so to speak - don't know just hear say - will be fun to expirement and find out - it will be a ways down the road for me maybe like say in 6 months or so - therefore I would like to keep in touch concerning the Rover if you don't mind sharing - thanks for your time! Is LibbyDiesel same as Libbypapa used to be - which I think his name was Andrew hailing from Flagstaff AZ???

hill folk should chime in here, although his setup was alot more extreme than most other peoples, he had some type of a vw/4bt pump combo 12mm plunger, ported head and mercedes t3 turbo, he ate alot of 020s up

Yeah. While it doesn't seem to common to shred transmissions.. I wonder what the hell the people are doing to them that actually are going through them? 6k rpm clutch drops all day? I have been dailying this unknown km ACN on my TDI since.. like early Feb. Still shifts like brand new. I don't take it easy on it, I usually am spinning tires every launch, as there is just that much torque that low with the k03.

nah, its a 40 rpm difference in 5th gear @ 60mph.. from a .71 to a .75

135-145RPM difference depending on final drive, 3.67/3.89 and 3.94 respectively.

well 6 MPH is 6 MPH so that better for me!
